The first guy does attack pretty frequently compared to others but it's single target. Once you have 2 champions in each of the 12 slots you can do a special mission to unlock a second party and a Modron Core that you can level up to get extra buffs and automate part of the game: always load a specific formation when starting an adventure, restarting an adventure at a certain level, and popping potions at certain levels. The other slots, tbh are really anyone, because all the others are doing for me is hitting enemies for scratch damage but it does slow them down. If you like D&D, the flavour of this game is packed. What i have been using is, the first guy in the second row to the front, the mage lady below him so she can heal the front guy/lady who buffs those behind, but she also buffs those around her for dps.
Example, i have the first guy doing most of my damage, group dps will show say, 500mil.but when that guy hits he is doing triple that.
